Rooney House

Rooney House is the transformation of a mid–late 1800s Victorian terrace, where heritage character and contemporary living come together through thoughtful architecture and careful craftsmanship. The design restores the original portion of the home, reinstating its period detailing and proportions while introducing subtle modern touches that enhance functionality and flow.

A new rear addition adopts a refined contemporary form, designed to make the most of a compact inner-city footprint. One of the core challenges of terrace houses—limited natural light through the centre of the plan—is resolved with the introduction of a north-facing narrow light court. This considered insertion brings daylight deep into the home, creating a brighter and more connected living environment while defining the junction between old and new.
